What can the Notary do at the Bill Memorial Library?
- Administer an oath.
- Notarize acknowledgements.
- Notarize affidavits.
- The Notary will only notarize documents that are written in English.
- The Notary must be able to communicate in English directly with the document signer.
What is the Notary NOT able to do at the Bill Memorial Library?
- Notary is unable to certify copies of vital records such as birth, marriage or death certificates.
- Notary will not notarize wills, Powers of Attorney, adoptions, forms related to child custody, real estate, Living wills or Living trusts. Patron should seek legal advice. Library staff cannot provide legal advice.
- USCIS Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification Form).
- Notary cannot give legal advice or advise patron about immigration policies or procedures (Patrons should seek legal advice).
Identification needed:
Two (2) forms of identification are needed: A picture ID as well as another current form of identification with signature. Acceptable forms of additional ID include:
- A current passport, current driver’s license, state-issued non-driver IDs.
- Valid Pistol Permit.
- A “Green Card” with signature.
- A signed library card, credit card or debit card.
- NOTE: Birth certificates and Social Security cards are not acceptable forms of ID.
Additional Information:
- If the document requires witnesses as well as your own signature and notarization, it is the patron’s responsibility to provide them.
- The Notary must witness the patron sign the document. Do not sign the document ahead of time.
- The Notary reserves the right to refuse to sign any document that they deem questionable and/or may refuse to perform notary services when the identity of the person (s) requesting notarization has not been positively established using acceptable IDs.
- The Notary is at the Library on a limited schedule. Please call the Library to schedule an appointment.
- Notary appointments cannot not be scheduled within one hour of the Library’s closing time.
