Bill Memorial Library’s Contact-Free Pickup Service Ongoing


Order items:

To order items for pickup, you must have a library card. If you are a Groton resident and need a card, click here. You will receive a temporary number to include in your hold request, and you will need to come in to the library in person to verify your residency when you feel safe to do so.

To place a request for items for pickup you may:

Please note:

  • items can now be transferred between libraries, but additional delays will occur for quarantine

  • include your name, library card number, and phone number in your email request, plus the titles you want, desired format (large print, audiobook, DVD, etc), and author, if possible

Pickup by appointment:

Once we fill your hold request, you will be contacted by a staff member to schedule a pickup day. Items will be available for pickup during our open hours,

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 11 am–7:30 pm

  • Wednesday, Friday: 11 am–4:30 pm

  • Saturday: 11 am–2:30pm


​How to pick up materials

  • When it's your pick-up appointment day, come to the front entrance of the library.

  • Our front entrance has several steps. If you need an accommodation, please let the library staff know when you make your pick-up appointment.

  • Your items will be placed in a paper bag labeled with the first 4 letters of your last name, and placed on a cart in the entry vestibule. 

  • The outer doors will be propped open.

  • Please wear a face covering when picking up items and observe all posted signs.

  • Wait until vestibule is empty, then enter, take your bag, and exit.

  • If vestibule is NOT empty, please wait your turn, leaving at least 6 feet of space between you and other people.

 

If you have any questions during your pickup and do not wish to enter the library, please call us at  860-445-0392.


How to return materials:

  • You may return library books in our vestibule while we are open for pickup.  Items will remain on your account for the quarantine period. You will not be charged fees for this time.

  • Our Book Drop is open for after-hours returns.

  • We are not accepting donations at this time.


Safety Information
Staff members are taking all possible precautions to fulfill your item requests. Items that are returned are placed in quarantine for 3 days. After 3 days, the covers are wiped down with disinfectant and the items are returned to the shelves.

Traveling Archivist Implementation Grant

Many thanks to Martha, our traveling archivist, and Molly, our intern (pictured here) for arranging and making finding aids for three of our local history collections. BML was the recipient of a Traveling Archivist Implementation Grant with the support from the Connecticut State Library, the Connecticut State Historical Records Advisory Board, and the National Archives' National Historic Publications and Records Commission.

Girls Who Code empowers girls to learn to code while having fun!  Open to students in grades 6 - 12.  Registration is required, please call the Library at 860-445-0392 to register!

May 23, 2019

Visit driving-tests.org on our website to study the Connecticut Drivers' Education manual and then take practice tests.  Take the practice tests as often as you would like, for free.  Study at your own pace until you are ready to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles to take the actual test!

The Bill Memorial Library will host the Creative Writers of New London County on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30, beginning on Thursday, February 14, 2019.  Bring a pen, paper, all of your best ideas and work of your own (several copies please).  The Creative Writers of New London County are a group of writers who meet up to share, discuss and critique one another’s work using constructive criticism. Whether your goal is to publish, have personal work reviewed or just to meet writing friends, all are welcome.

Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

The Bill Memorial Library, in partnership with the Riverfront Children’s Center in Groton, is pleased to announce the commencement of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Beginning Monday, September 18, families are invited to come to the library and pick up a registration packet containing program information and reading logs. This free program encourages parents to read 1000 books with their newborn, toddler, or preschool child before he or she starts kindergarten, with the library providing small incentives for each milestone met. This program is designed for children from birth to age 5 and is partially funded by The Friends of The Bill Memorial Library. For more information, please stop by the library or call 860-445-0392.
