The Bill Memorial Library Children's Room offers books and activities for infants through grade school. Our collection includes picture books, easy readers, magazines, juvenile fiction & non-fiction, and biographies, as well as computers and early learning workstations. Programs for toddlers through middle school are held throughout the year.

Summer Food Service Programs for Groton Kids

The Library is thrilled to be a site for Groton Public Schools' Summer Food Service Program. Nutritious meals are provided to all children 18 years and under, completely free of charge. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 6/19/17 until 8/18/17. For times and more information, check out our flyer here.

Laurel City Historical Fencing Demonstration

Prepare for a sword-clashing Saturday! The Bill Memorial Library will host a presentation and demonstration by Laurel City Historical Fencing on Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. Laurel City Historical Fencing is a school in the northwest corner of Connecticut; their focus is on the German School of Medieval Combat, with their curriculum based on the teachings of Master Johannes Liechtenauer, a 14th century fencing master. The group will give a lecture on the history of Historical European Martial Arts followed by a demonstration of some longsword, dagger, and poleaxe. This program is free and suitable for all ages. Animal Show on the Go!

The Bill Memorial Library invites kids of all ages to Animal Show on the Go on Tuesday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. Meet and learn about a variety of animals in an interactive setting. Animal Show on the Go is an exotic animal rescue that fosters an understanding and respect for nature. All ages welcome. For more information, check out our flyer here.

The Art Truck Returns!

Join us Tuesday, August 1 between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Bill Memorial Library for the return of The Art Truck, a mobile art studio. Kids of all ages are invited to take part in a fun arts and craft experience as they create an artwork to take home. No registration is necessary. The Art Truck is sponsored by The City of Groton and is part of the library’s 2017 Summer Reading program.

Summer Storytime - Tuesdays in July

Summertime is the best time for Story Time! The Bill Memorial Library invites children and their families to Summertime Story Time on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in July. Registration is not required: the program begins July 11 and ends August 1. When the weather is favorable, we may meet outside under the shade trees so bring a blanket if you like. The Art Truck & Bring the Hoopla!

A Summer Reading double feature! The Bill Memorial Library invites kids of all ages to join us on Tuesday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. for 2 fun programs! The Art Truck returns with a creative robot craft and Bring the Hoopla brings The Hoopla Zone, an interactive play area of fun and hooping including demo performances, mini classes and one-on-one instruction. This program is part of the library’s Build a Better World! 2017 Summer Reading program. The Art Truck visit is courtesy of The City of Groton Parks & Recreation Department. The 2018 Nutmeg Awards Nominees Are In!

The Nutmeg Book Awards is the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL)'s joint venture to encourage children and teens reading and voting on great books. The nominees for the Elementary Award: Grades 2-4 can be found here, and the nominees for the Intermediate Award: Grades 4-6 can be found here.
